Definition A Plastic Blind Drain is a type of geosynthetic drainage material with a three-dimensional polymer structure as its core.It is designed to replace traditional granular drains (like gravel) for efficient subsurface water collection, conveyance, and drainage. It is widely used in civil engineering projects such as roadbeds, tunnel linings, retaining walls, and landfill systems to prevent waterlogging and ensure long-term stability.

Plastic Blind Drain | Geocomposite Drainage Core
The Plastic Blind Drain is a composite material integrating a drainage core and a filter fabric. Its core is typically made from polystyrene (PS) or polyethylene (PE) formed into a sturdy, open-channeled network. Based on project requirements, it can be customized into different types, primarily categorized by shape (circular, rectangular, sheet) and the specific performance of the core (e.g., high-flow capacity, high-compression strength). During manufacturing, the polymer is melted and extruded to form the three-dimensional core. A geotextile filter fabric (non-woven or woven) is then thermally or adhesively bonded to one or more surfaces of the core to prevent soil intrusion while allowing water to pass through, resulting in a roll or sheet final product. Its primary component is the polymer core (≥95%), wrapped with a geotextile filter fabric. Additives such as UV stabilizers and carbon black may be incorporated to enhance durability and longevity.
Advanced Design & Production
NK's product line utilizes high-grade virgin polymers and state-of-the-art automated extrusion lines. Each production batch undergoes rigorous testing for core compression strength, water flow capacity, and filtration efficiency, strictly complying with international standards like ASTM D4716 and GRI GC8. Our products are not only supplied to domestic infrastructure projects including high-speed railways and landfill liners but are also exported to over 20 countries and regions including the United States, Australia, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia, recognized for their reliable performance and engineering adaptability.
Advantages & Strengths
High-Efficiency Drainage:
The three-dimensional structure provides a continuous, large-void-space network, creating stable channels for rapid water collection and conveyance, far exceeding the efficiency of traditional gravel drains.
High Compressive Strength & Durability:
The rigid polymer core can withstand long-term static and dynamic loads from soil and structures without significant deformation, ensuring lasting drainage performance. It is also resistant to chemical and biological corrosion.
Customizable Design & Integration:
The shape (rolls, sheets), core stiffness, and type of geotextile wrap can be customized. It can be integrated with other geosynthetics like geomembranes to form composite drainage and protection systems.
Cost-Effectiveness & Environmental Benefit:
Reduces the need for quarrying and transporting natural aggregates, lowering the carbon footprint. Its long service life minimizes maintenance costs, offering superior whole-life-cycle economy.

Popular Applications
Road & Railway Subgrade Drainage::
Use Rectangular Core (40mm height) wrapped with non-woven geotextile. Installed along the sides or beneath the subgrade to intercept groundwater, prevent capillary rise, and prolong pavement life.
Tunnel & Underground Structure Drainage:
Use Sheet-type Core (8mm thickness) laminated with non-woven geotextile. Placed between the primary lining and secondary concrete lining or behind retaining walls to relieve hydrostatic pressure.
Landfill & Environmental Protection Engineering :
Use High-Compression Rectangular Core (compression strength ≥500 kPa) wrapped with non-woven geotextile. Used in leachate collection systems and gas collection layers to ensure efficient drainage.
Sports Field & Green Roof Drainage:
Use Sheet-type Core (10-20mm thickness) with a filter layer. Laid beneath the surface or growing medium to quickly drain excess rainwater, preventing waterlogging.
Agricultural & Landscape Drainage:
Use Circular Core (Ø50mm) wrapped with non-woven geotextile. Buried in waterlogged farmland or garden areas for subsurface drainage, improving soil conditions.
