Project Background & Challenges
The project was located in Zambia’s Copperbelt region, an area with heavy rainfall and complex soil conditions. The tailings dam needed a reliable waterproofing system to prevent contaminants from entering groundwater. Uneven terrain and weak soil structure made sealing and compaction difficult.
Technical Solution
Nuokun Geosynthetics provided a double-layer HDPE geomembrane system (1.5mm + 2.0mm) with protective geotextile. This combination offered flexibility, UV resistance, and strong anti-seepage performance, ideal for tropical conditions.
Installation & Construction
The geomembranes were welded using dual-track hot wedge machines. Anchor trenches were used for slope fixation. Over 50,000m² were installed within 25 days under Nuokun’s technical supervision.
Inspection & Quality Verification
Every welding seam underwent air pressure and vacuum box testing per ASTM standards. Final inspection showed zero leakage and perfect sealing quality.
Client Feedback & Project Value
After six months of operation, the dam showed excellent waterproofing performance. The system reduced seepage risks and long-term maintenance costs.
