Malaysia is located in a tropical rainforest climate zone with high rainfall and soil moisture throughout the year. Such conditions create a high risk of seepage and groundwater contamination in wastewater facilities. To achieve zero leakage and environmental compliance, the municipal authority adopted an advanced impermeable lining system in the new wastewater treatment plant.

Technical Solution

Nuokun supplied a combined system of GCL (Geosynthetic Clay Liner) and 1.5mm HDPE geomembrane. The HDPE liner provides chemical resistance and tensile strength, while the GCL serves as a secondary sealing layer to prevent potential leakage. This dual-layer structure ensures long-term impermeability even under high-humidity tropical conditions.

Construction & Installation

The installation team faced uneven ground and a high groundwater table. They adopted a zoned installation approach using automatic hot wedge welding for HDPE seams. All welds underwent on-site vacuum testing to ensure airtight sealing. After installation, a protective layer was applied to prevent damage and UV degradation.

Testing & Verification

The project passed vacuum, air pressure, and 24-hour water level stability tests after completion. All results confirmed zero leakage, meeting and exceeding the local environmental protection standards.
